Many people eliminate social media and other online platforms to focus on their mental health. While the goal of social media is to connect with friends and family, it can also cause stress and negative thoughts about oneself or others.

People struggling with issues in their own lives look at other social media pages and get a false sense of other people’s well-being since posts shared on social media are specifically chosen to portray an image (and don’t give an exact representation of that person’s real life).

While social connection is important, taking a break from social media allows you to remove distractions and focus on your own life. Even turning off your device or silencing notifications for an hour a day can help your mental health!
